Having been a naive and unteachable artist in my earlier years, it was left to me to figure out - on my own - how to paint. I managed though, somehow, to quickly find success - got into galleries, made sales, and began to forge an identity. But in 2001, unexpectedly, I happened upon a remote orphanage in Eastern Europe, and my life was irrevocably changed.  I not only found an understandably profound subject matter, but a new purpose in life - being a financial support, through my art, for the poor orphans. A commitment that continued for twenty visits over the years.

For varying reasons, including the current war in the Ukraine, I am unable to continue my work at the orphanage. And while still doing paintings of my wife, I look forward, in 2024, to a change in my artistic direction.
